Welcome to the website for the Loyal Order of Knights and Dames of the Red Cross (aka the Order of the Red Cross).
TERMS
* The Loyal Order of the Knights (and Dames) of the Red Cross is presented to science-fiction enthusiasts for service to the American Red Cross. The order has five levels: Knight/Dame Grand Cross, Knight/Dame Commander, Knight/Dame, Companion, and Squire. The first three levels confer knighthood. The Companion level is presented for support of service to the American Red Cross. The Squire level is presented to a Knight-in-training.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Page ("John Doe, ORC" or "Jane Doe, ORC")
> Age: 7 to 13
> Service: at least 1 hour
* Squire ("John Doe, Esq., ORC" or "Jane Doe, Esq., ORC")
> Age: 14 to 20
> Service: at least 10 hours
* Companion ("Master John Doe, CRC" or "Mistress Jane Doe, CRC")
(Significant Other of a Knight, Dame, Commander, or Grand Cross)
> Age: 18 or older
> Service: no direct hours required
* Knight ("Sir John Doe, KRC")
* Dame ("Dame Jane Doe, DRC")
> Age: 21 or older (waiverable)
> Service: at least 100 hours
* Knight Commander ("Sir John Doe, KCRC")
* Dame Commander ("Dame Jane Doe, DCRC")
> Age: 21 or older
> Service: at least 500 hours
* Knight Grand Cross ("Sir John Doe, KGCRC")
* Dame Grand Cross ("Dame Jane Doe, DGCRC")
> Age: 21 or older
> Service: at least 1000 hours
DECORATIONS
NECKBAND
* Squires wear a bronze medalion on a 7/8 inch red ribbon.
* Companions wear a bronze medallion on a 7/8 inch red ribbon.
* Knights/Dames wear a bronze medallion on a 1-1/2 inch red ribbon.
* Knights/Dames Commander wear a silver medallion on a 1-1/2 inch red ribbon.
* Knights/Dames Grand Cross wear a gold medallion on a 1-1/2 inch red ribbon.
MEDAL
* Squires wear a bronze medallion on a 1-3/8 inch wide red/white medal drape.
* Companions wear a bronze medallion on a tricolor (light blue/red/light blue) drape.
* Knights/Dames wear a bronze medallion on a red drape.
* Knights/Dames Commander wear a silver medallion on a red drape.
* Knights/Dames Grand Cross wear a gold medallion on a red drape.
RIBBON
* Squires wear a red/white ribbon (3/8" x 1-3/8").
* Companions wear a tricolor (light blue/red/light blue) ribbon.
* Knights/Dames wear a red ribbon (large bronze star optional).
* Knights/Dames wear a red ribbon (large silver star optional).
* Knights/Dames wear a red ribbon (large gold star optional).
OBVERSE AND REVERSE
* Each of the badges has a reverse that is blank. It is suitable for engraving by the recipient.
MOUNTING
* The medallions are worn from a ribbon passing through a large ring linked to the medallion.
DATES
* The order was founded in 2000.
ISSUED
* There have been a total number of 2 K/DGCRC, 6 K/DCRC, 6 K/DRC, and 2 CRC issued.
